One day, after being lured into the forest by one of Botan’s schemes and nearly attacked by an ayakashi, Kikka is saved by a young man named Tōji, whose body is covered in cursed markings. Wary at first, the two slowly begin to open up as they recognize the loneliness in each other and are gradually drawn together. But the ayakashi curse eating away at Tōji spirals out of control, and he begins to transform into a fearsome yaksha. In the moment Kikka reaches out to the suffering Tōji, the dormant power within her awakens—the ability to break curses.
